In My Mailbox

In My Mailbox - January Edition (or, has it really been two months since I last posted an IMM?)

In My Mailbox was started by Kristi over at The Story Siren! In My Mailbox is a way to share the books you received each week.

Yes, this is the pile of all I received since last IMM. Not as big as most bloggers, but still huge to me.

Pink Noise by Leonid Korogodski - It just got here last week and I'm sad I couldn't capture everything on the picture. It is BEAUTIFUL. With special paper, shiny one, all over the book, beautiful pictures - drawings, a ribbon bookmarker, even a QR Code on the back, taking to a Twitter account, it's one of the most well-thought artistic book design project I've seen.
Summary from GoodReads: One of the best brain doctors of his time, Nathi lost his own brain five centuries ago when he became a posthuman. He is now called upon to save a comatose girl. The damage is extensive, so he decides to map his own mind into her brain in order to replace the damaged part. But something unexpected awaits him within the girl’s brain. She is a carrier of a Wish Fairy, an enigmatic sentient cyberbeing whose only purpose is to kill the Wish, a virus used to enslave all posthuman minds, including Nathi’s. Liberated, Nathi forms a symbiotic union with the girl, discovers the true cause of her brain

injury, and finds a way to break out of the Castle, their high-tech prison, and into the Martian polar night. But once outside, the real chase begins. It is a battle that must be fought both in the physical world and that of the mind.

Being With Him by Jessica Inclán - I've finished this one already, it's a sci-fi romance. I've fell in love with the world-building and the characters... Read my review clicking here

A Besta dos Mil Anos by Ilmar Penna Marinho Junior - A brazilian author, it's some sort of Dan Brown-ish book, with a tapestry from the 1300's that was chopped into pieces and sort of lost.

Ossos de Deus by Leonardo Gori - "The Bones of God" by Italian author Leonardo Gori is a historical Dan Brown-ish fiction, with Machiavel and Leonardo da Vinci, along with other historical figures. A very interesting book - review soon.

Blackbringer by Laini Taylor (Faeries of Dreamdark #1) - Summary from Goodreads: When the ancient evil of the Blackbringer rises to unmake the world, only one determined faerie stands in its way. However, Magpie Windwitch, granddaughter of the West Wind, is not like other faeries. While her kind live in seclusion deep in the forests of Dreamdark, she's devoted her life to tracking down and recapturing devils escaped from their ancient bottles, just as her hero, the legendary Bellatrix, did 25,000 years ago. With her faithful gang of crows, she travels the world fighting where others would choose to flee. But when a devil escapes from a bottle sealed by the ancient Djinn King himself—the creator of the world—she may be in over her head. How can a single faerie, even with the help of her friends, hope to defeat the impenetrable darkness of the Blackbringer?
At a time when fantasy readers have an embarrassment of riches in choosing new worlds to fall in love with, this first novel by a fresh, original voice is sure to stand out.

Strange Angels by Lilith Saintcrow - I got this one from my secret santa which, by the way, I still don't know who is.                                                      Summary from Goodreads: Dru Anderson has what her grandmother called “the touch.” (Comes in handy when you’re traveling from town to town with your dad, hunting ghosts, suckers, wulfen, and the occasional zombie.) Then her dad turns up dead—but still walking—and Dru knows she’s next. Even worse, she’s got two guys hungry for her affections, and they’re not about to let the fiercely independent Dru go it alone. Will Dru discover just how special she really is before coming face-to-fang with whatever—or whoever— is hunting her?

The Witching Hour by Anne Rice (#1 and #2) - Not quite sure what's the american equivalent, aparently they chopped the book #1 - The Withching Hour in two, since the american version has a whooping 1200 pages (ouchies!).
Summary from Goodreads: In this engrossing and hypnotic tale of witchcraft and the occult spanning four centuries, we meet a great dynasty of witches--a family given to poetry and incest, to murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is haunted by a powerful, dangerous and seductive being.

In My Mailbox

Hello there kids!

This has been a busy busy week, several events last weekend, lots of freebies (oh my gee bookmarks!!) and several books from last and this week :D
Check it out:

I got Radiance from a giveaway... It went to one of my friends in the USA, then he sent me, but it took a nice while between us, so it's something I won back in August... And I can't find the exact link from where I got it, so I'll have to leave it link-less...
Radiance is a lovely book, I've almost finished it in two days, it's a middle-grade, tween book, light, nice and fun, I love Riley. :)

Fall of Giants, the Brazilian edition. First impression: oh my. 900 pages. It's huge. But past the initial shock, it's Ken Follett, which I've been wanting to read for a while and it's historical fiction, which I love and I also love large books, so I'm feeling pretty good, really :)

Where the river ends (free translation).. I admit I didn't look much into it yet, I got it as a gift from a friend, but it seems to be a drama or romance of some sort... Has anyone read it? Heard of it?
The last Lady of the Fire (free translation) is a book by brazilian author Marcelo Paschoalin, who is a nice friend of mine and I happen to blog on his rpg-related blog Dark Fate RPG.
He also sent me a handful of signed bookmarkers <3

Halo. I'm almost scared of reading this one.. The nice people at Ediouro Publisher sent it to me and I was really excited and then I read some bad reviews saying it was too soft or disconected... And kind of pushed me down... Now, is it good? I guess I'll find out!

Also, Therese Walsh sent me two copies of her The Last Will of Moira Leahy. The cover is just SO beautiful I just want to keep both to me haha... But fear not, I'll be good and give one away ;) I'll let you guys know :)

In My Mailbox

Hi guys! I know, I'm such a bad bad blogger, but here is my IMM for the past 2 weeks, I put them all together, so they look better... hehe

I got Soulless from Book Lovers Inc. It was a US$ 10 credit at the Book Depository and I couldn't have chosen a best book, look, it is BEAUTIFUL!

Ken Follett's A Place Called Freedom that I found at a used book's store. It's not in perfect condition, but's decent and, well, you don't see many books in English here in Brazil so it's a major find (for like US$ 2,00).
The Three Musketeers  by Alexandre Dumas. A classic, of course. Hopefully it's not an edited, altered version but the original story, since I found at the used book's store I couldn't really ask anyone if they knew...
Verne's "From the Earth to the Moon" is another classic that I managed to find at the used book's store... Hopefully not an edited version.
This is a Goodreads Firstreads win, my first one actually, it's part of the Nebador Series, it's book one, called The Test. Sounds like a good sci fi, been a while since I last read one of those :)

In My Mailbox

In My Mailbox is a meme started and hosted by The Story Syren.

The Girl with Glass Feet - Ali Shaw

I just LOVED the cover effect, all those black parts shine and I like it a lot. The publisher actually surprised me by sending that one along with A Game of Thrones, which I was expecting, so I love it even more :)

Summary on Goodreads HERE.
The Cinderella Society - Kay Cassidy

This one is part of the brazilian book tour for this book, which will be over soon, since I'm the last tour-er and I'll send it to it's final home. It's a beautiful book and I hope it's as cool as it sounds.

Summary on Goodreads HERE

A Game of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire #1) - George Martin

Well, to take the "next LotR" name is NOT for any book, so I'm desperatly eager to read this one. It's just been translated, so I'll have to wait a lot for books #2 and on, but I think it'll be worth it. Hopefully. The publisher made an awesome work on it, aswell as with the girl with the glass feet and it looks pretty and really reminds me of LotR. Hopefully it's not just a copycat-sort-of.
Summary on Goodreads HERE

And that's all for this week, folks :*

In My Mailbox

Ok, not really. You see, I got these books the past 2 weeks, but I figured I could come and show them all at once, right? Right. :)

 Eras - Stephen Play
A journey through human kind's history, mix with religion, philosophy and sci fi. Couldn't find an oficial summary in English, so that's what I say it's about (based on brazilian summary). It seems to be a brazilian author, even though his name sounds american... Is on the TBR pile.

Genesys Secret - Tom Knox
Summary from Goodreads: In this epic thriller, a secret with shocking consequences is buried deep in the Middle Eastern desert
A debut thriller of spectacular sweep and brilliant turns, The Genesis Secret is sure to keep fans of Douglas Preston, Kate Mosse, and Raymond Khoury reading through the night.
So, a Dan Brown-like Thriller. Lovely differently from my latest reads :D

Receive me Falling - Erika Robuck

I already read this one and it's a LOVELY book, historical fiction of a slave-driven sugar cane plantation. I loved it and read it pretty fast, which is always a good sign hehe

It was signed and the writer is a cutie, she was very nice and answered my emails and all...

Review coming soon :)

Crescendo - Becca Fitzpatrick

I basically ATE that book. From the moment it got here until I was done, I couldn't stop (it was hard to work a whole day without reading it aside from lunch hour).
You know this one, right? Hush, hush's waited sequel, I got an ARC on a giveaway at Kid Lit Frenzy and it got here in 20 days, record time, before  it was released!
Patch is hot, but a jerk. What can I say... But Nora is less stupid on this one - review coming soon too.

And 2 more arrived today and another arriving still this week, but I will show those next week ;)
